Convincing media is not proof

AI can be used to create realistic voices, images, videos, websites and messages. A clip that appears to show a family member, executive, celebrity or public official may still be manipulated, taken out of context or paired with a false request.

Build a verification habit

When a message creates urgency, use a trusted contact method to verify it. Call a family member on a known number, use an organisation’s official website, and agree on a private family verification phrase for unexpected financial requests where appropriate. Do not treat an image, video or voice alone as confirmation.

Watch for combined pressure tactics

Deepfake content often appears alongside impersonation, investment promotion, romance fraud or account-recovery claims. Keep screenshots and links, but avoid sharing them widely as proof of wrongdoing. Use the Message or Social Profile checker for educational guidance.
