Online Shopping Scams

Spot the warning signs around fake stores, marketplace payment pressure, counterfeit listings and delivery problems before you buy.

A low price is not the only warning sign

Fake-store and marketplace scams can use copied product photos, polished reviews, limited-time discounts and social-media ads to create confidence. Look for a coherent returns policy, real contact details, clear delivery terms and payment methods with meaningful buyer protections.

Keep payments on the platform where appropriate

Be cautious if a seller asks you to leave a marketplace, pay by gift card, bank transfer, cryptocurrency or an unfamiliar payment link. Do not be pressured by claims that another buyer is waiting or that an offer expires within minutes.

Before and after payment

Review the store URL with the Website checker and save the listing, messages and receipts. If you believe you paid a fake seller, contact the payment provider or card issuer promptly through an official route and preserve all evidence.
